Rights

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.
Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.
No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms.
No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

Is it any wonder why Yahweh will never be a signatory to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights?

Lesson

On my wishlist: Every time someone ecstatically exclaims "God is good!" she instantly finds herself transformed into a Yazidi girl being gang raped by her ISIS captors; or finds himself in Israel being incessantly stabbed by a Palestinian terrorist; or transported to a plane crash with both legs torn off, her children mangled and burned beyond recognition; or turned into a child, in rags, begging in the rain, with a belly that's not had a morsel for a day and a night; or a Syrian refugee, with his wife, children, and fellow citizens, being refused asylum in all European countries; or ....

With all the evil in the world and the suffering millions, how egregiously obscene and perverse it is to even suggest calling an omnipotent being good.

Egoist

You know someone's a self-centered prick when s/he publicly prays: "Thank you Lord for not letting the storm raze my home" instead of "Lord, why did you let the storm leave a third our of town homeless?"

Fooled

Belief in snake oil and prayer are so alike. You take grandma's remedy and the headache goes away; ergo, the nostrum works. You message the sky god and the winds die down; ergo, talking to yourself (or to the wind) works. Non causa pro causa. Post hoc ergo propter hoc.

Geez, can't we have it the other way around? Can't we have a majority familiar with logical fallacies and the tools of scientific skepticism and have just a handful of benighted fools?

Powerless

Don't know whether to love or hate the fact that humans are so predictable when it comes to perceived powerlessness over certain situations. The simple fact is that the probability of people resorting to superstitious behavior shoots up, say, during hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, and other natural phenomena over which they have absolutely no control over. I don't think we need to conduct a scientific study to say that the number of petitions to mythological characters skyrockets in times of natural disasters.

Constitution

The 13th Amendment is an affront to Constitution of God.

Wrong

How dare you declare God wrong and guilty!
Seize this witch and break her on the wheel. No one talks ill of our fictional father.

Biblical

All the horrific atrocities of ISIS--wholesale murder, killing children, taking slaves, raping women, killing gays--are given a thumbs up by the god of the scriptures.

Read the bible. It's great for enlightenment.

Mindful

Some young adults need a crash course in courtesy. I've seen a handful who've not even bothered giving way to disabled elderly inside malls and other public spaces. In fact some have even cut into or blocked their path.

I don't think most of them are intentionally being malicious. I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt and say they're simply unconscious--not being fully in the moment and more importantly not being mindful of those around them and their consequences on the same.

Awareness and thoughtfulness. Such essential habits in altruistic societies.

Nothing

In Roseburg, Oregon where a shooting in a college occurred leaving several dead, a good number of residents have been lining up to donate blood.

So not only did God not protect the victims from being murdered, he couldn't be bothered to miraculously turn water into blood (of the right type of course) to save those who are still breathing.

What do you think Superman would've done had he been at the school right before the shooting began? Yeah, he would've just stood there and watch the kids and teacher get strafed. He would even have stepped aside to let the bullets through if he had been in the way. That's what he would've done--he would've done nothing to prevent/stop the carnage. No question about it.

Beg

There are these two elderly women, one of whom is blind, out on the road going from car to car begging for charity. Whenever they receive some kindness they say with a smile, "God bless."

"God bless you." Is the irony lost on them? Surely it must've occurred to them that it isn't those in the air-conditioned cars and SUVs who need the blessings of an all-powerful genie.

The thing is, I don't want that god showering the well-off with gifts. Instead I want that god to have a heart and give these wizened women a decent enough life, if only for their few remaining years. I want that god to do what is right instead of sitting back and letting millions needlessly suffer. And I want that fucked-up, evil-as-hell being to beg for these two women's forgiveness for having left them disabled, homeless, and penniless.

Might

Here's the deal. I'm going to use you, you, and you to teach him, her, and them the lesson of love and compassion. Just to be clear, you're going to be born with half a head, half a brain, half a heart, and no limbs. And you there will be conjoined with that other guy and share all major organs--I most certainly won't let 21st century science and technology split you two apart. And you there at the back are going to come out mute, dumb, and blind, and with an IQ of 150 (base 6). Now go on and enter the world, Batch #845917

My ends justify any and all means however appalling.
Might makes right. Being Almighty makes evil Alright.

Love

How do I love thee, you ask? Let me show you the countless ways: Autism, Down, Tay-Sach's, hemophilia, spina bifida, sickle cell anemia, cystic fibrosis, Huntington's, color blindness, Turner syndrome, Marfan syndrome, microcephaly, ....

Oh, and remember, I shall but love thee better after death.

[with apologies to Elizabeth Barrett Browning]

Pattern

I just got the raise! God is good!
My dog was run over. <sniffles>
My son topped his class! God is soooo good!
Tens of thousands of children are starving because of the drought. <no comment>
My team won the finals! God is great!
Tsunami washes away villages, towns, and cities in 10 countries. <chirping crickets>

Any pattern here? Yeah, I can't see any either.
